A New Hope

A damp dreary chill filled the sky
A shroud of mist covered the Earth
All the warmth was destined to die
With it would go all joy and mirth.

Even the Sun had shirked away
Feeling the brunt of mortal Cold
31st December didn't see one ray!
We waited eager, for the year to fold.

To 1st of Jan, the Calendar turned
On cue rose Helios on the East
Cold on his very knees was spurned
2009 brings hope at least.

Even if not much, it promises more
Than the fallen year in more ways than one
The world has fallen humble to the floor
The only way now is 'up' - towards the sun.

So may the new year make reality of goals
May again, the world stand tall
May the world fill up with 'lol's
A very happy new year to one and all.

  1. I don't remember the sun showing its bright face since the past three days! Wonderful poem, btw.

  2. Nice poem, though it initially reminded me of that lame Diwali greeting HHH sent around

It did. Actually if u notice the pattern, it pops up every second day. Thanks.

    @ Dela

Thank you... (I'm assuming that it's a compliment anyway)

Wat u sed to Murty doesn't make any sense to me... (anyway I'll try to remember asking Muud the next time we meet)

Thank you but you do realize that IIT R is showing very lopsided development of - late. 2 more hostels (huge ones too) plus a few more eating joints and you'll be wondering why u ever had to leave RJB!

  6. dearest sir...really good poem...but "may again"leaves a lot of scope for doubt and "again"gives the feel of an engine trying to start every new yr invaribly to fail.otherwise may again u bask in the sunlit perfection of ur work

    1. I've got a name and I'm pretty sure its not 'Sir'. (I'd be terribly disappointed if it was)

    2. 'Again' only means that the world stood tall before it fell. This is 2009 specific. I assure you I won't post the same poem every new year.

    3. Thanks for the compliments and your cryptic future wishes.

Very nice poem. Haven't seen poems on blogs much.

Maybe you are right... Hope it stays this way though. As for the poem, I've been thinking of posting one for a long time but this is of PTV inspiration.
